*Banana-que is a famous street food in the Philippines. This is my all time favorite snack. Originally it is cook with “Saba or Cardaba” it is a type of cooking banana. It is cooked deep fried caramelize in brown sugar skewered in a barbeque stick. This was featured in one of Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods in Travel Channel aired last 2007. He said “it’s like eating Banana’s Foster without the snotty waiter and the big copper flambe pan”. He said this while eating  on the street beside the vendor, I got a good laugh out of it.
This is my version of Banana-que. I used plantains because this is the closest to a Saba and it is very accessible to buy in any American grocery store. You can buy frozen Saba in a Filipino or an Asian store. I added cinnamon because it goes well with brown sugar. When cooking just be careful you don’t burn it, brown sugar burn easily. enJOY!!!
